GROVE CITY, Pa.  – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team could not overcome a hot start from Grove City (Pa.) College in a 6-1 loss in the team's non-conference finale on College Field.

Grove City (6-1-2) set the tone of the game early with an aggressive plan, forcing BW (5-4-1) into the defensive. The Wolverines scored four times in less than four minutes, capped off with a penalty kick goal. Although most of the first half was played in BW's defensive third, the Yellow Jackets still managed to work the ball up the field to take 11 shots in the period. Only two of those shots were on goal, however, as one came from junior two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC forward Danny Ruple's (Berea/Berea-Midpark) in the 19th minute and the other from senior forward Logan Davis (Hinckley/Medina Highland) in the 33rd minute.

To start the second half, sophomore midfielder Bryce Posner (Aurora) had a good look in front of the net to put BW on the scoreboard but had it saved by Grove City's goalie. The Yellow Jackets continued to put pressure on the Wolverine goalie with six total shots, including four on goal, and finally found the back of the net in the 62nd minute. Ruple sent a corner kick over to senior forward Ryan Hassell (Southampton, Bermuda/Western Reserve Academy), who headed the ball deep into the net for his third goal of the season. BW had two more shots on goal following the Hassell score but it was the Wolverines that added two more goals in the final 10 minutes en route to a 6-1 victory.

In the net, junior goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield/Revere) made five saves in the loss. The Yellow Jackets outshot Grove City 21-17 but the Wolverines made the most of their 11 shots on goal to BW's nine.

BW hosts Capital University on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m. in the opening of Ohio Athletic Conference action inside George Finnie Stadium.
