BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team completed the week of Sept. 10 with a 1-1 record, including a 4-0 shutout of the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford.
Week in Review
-BW wrestling head coach Jamie Gibbs came and spoke to the team. "It is a cool part of the BW athletic family that everyone pulls for and supports each other. We have a lot of talented coaches that are willing to share and help," men's soccer head coach Reid Ayers said. "It was good to tap into Jamie's talent and knowledge to help our soccer team."
-BW's 4-0 win over Bradford on Saturday marked the team's first shutout of the season
-Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference goalkeeper Brian Haviland (Grasonville, Md./Kent Island) recorded his first win in the net since 2016
-Junior Academic All-OAC forward Cannon Dees (Berea/Berea-Midpark) led the way offensively for the Yellow Jackets with one goal and two assists for four points across the week
-Freshman midfielders Dylan Keeling (Rocky River) and Attila Nagy Jr. (Lakewood) each scored their first career goals this week
-Seven different Yellow Jackets recorded at least one point this week
-Two Yellow Jackets currently rank in the top five in the OAC in most offensive categories
-Junior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) leads the OAC in shots taken (34), is second in goals (6) and points (15) and tied for third in assists (3)
-Dees is second in the conference with four assists and tied for fifth with 10 points
-Ayers' take: "I am pleased with the progress we made last week. Over the week, our guys were a little more organized and found little ways to help themselves. In most of our games, we've played well. We've had some moments where we broke down that we need to clean up and good teams will take advantage of mental breakdowns. We just have to continue to find ways to win games."

-The Yellow Jackets return home for two games after a four-game road trip. "It is going to be nice to be home," Ayers said. "Travel does wear on the guys and to have two games at home, to get settled in a little bit, is going to be nice."
-Wednesday, Sept. 19 vs. Oberlin College -> "We always look forward to Oberlin," Ayers said. "They are always a well-coached and organized team."
-Saturday, Sept. 22, vs. Waynesburg (Pa.) -> "We have had some competitive games with them so it's good to get them back on the schedule after two years," stated Ayers.
-Focus for the week: Get a little sharper. "The games this week are really challenging tests that are ultimately preparing us for conference play so we are trying to build concepts that are going to help us in October," finished Ayers.
