WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace men's lacrosse team defeated Wilmington College by a score of 16-6 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Townsend Field inside Williams Stadium.
BW (7-1, 2-0 OAC), who wins its seventh consecutive game, was led by sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) as he tallied a career-high tying six points with three goals and a career-high three assists. In addition to Steinwachs, sophomore attack Mike Nanosky (Medina) added three goals and an assist for four points. Defensively, sophomore midfielder Thomas Moesch (Ithaca, N.Y.) led the way with a career-high four caused turnovers and three groundballs.
Wilmington (2-7, 0-2 OAC) was led by junior midfielder Jhordan Lang as he scored a game-high four goals and added an assist for five points. Along with Lang, senior attack Reid Delaney scored two goals and added an assist for three points. Senior goalkeeper Paul Koerbal faced 53 shots and made 20 saves.
In the first quarter, the Yellow Jackets outshot the Quakers 13-3 resulting in two unassisted goals by freshman midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster) at the 8:16 mark and Steinwachs at the 2:20 mark.
In the second stanza, BW added to their lead in a big way with 21 shots and eight goals extending their lead to 10-0 entering the half after a goal by sophomore Judson Huston (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) assisted by Steinwachs with 22 seconds left in the second quarter. Steinwachs led the Yellow Jackets in the second quarter with one goal and three assists for four points.
To open up the second half, Wilmington put their first points on the board at the 12:53 mark when Lang scored. The Yellow Jackets would answer with an unassisted goal by Nanosky at the 11:52 mark. A Quaker goal by senior attack Reid Delaney off an assist from sophomore midfielder Caden Smolenski was countered by three goals from BW to extend the Yellow Jacket lead to 14-2. A late goal by Wilmington's Lang off an assist from Smolenski would end the third quarter with the Yellow Jackets leading 14-2.
The Yellow Jackets extended its lead to 16-4 when a short 2-1 run was capped off when junior attack Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) connected with Steinwachs for his third goal of the game. Wilmgington scored the final two goals of the contest with the last coming when Lang netted his fourth goal of the game with 43 seconds left on the clock.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, March 11 when it travels to Tiffin, Ohio for an Ohio Athletic Conference game against Heidelberg University on Riesen Field inside Hoernemann Stadium at 7 p.m.
