Men’s Lacrosse Wins Fourth Straight at Alma (Mich.)

ALMA, Mich. – The Baldwin Wallace men's lacrosse team won its fourth straight non-conference game with a 10-7 victory against Alma (Mich.) College on Bahlke Field.  

BW (4-1) was led by junior All-OAC attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) and junior midfielder Matt McDowell (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North). Riemenschneider scored a team-high three goals and McDowell scored two goals and added two assists for a team-high four points. Defensively, senior OAC Defender of the Year Josiah Greve (Milford) picked up five ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Alma (3-2) was led by junior midfielder Austen Irrer as he scored a team-high tying three goals and added one assist for four points. Sophomore goalie Cam Stelljies faced 26 shots and made a game-high 16 saves.

In the first quarter the Yellow Jackets jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when McDowell netted his first goal of the game at the 8:05 mark. Alma answered with two goals of its own with the last coming with 42 seconds left in the quarter to tie the game at 2-2.

After each team scored in the first two minutes of the quarter BW went on a 4-0 run to take a 7-3 lead into halftime. Riemenschneider scored two goals and senior attack James Wilhelm (Bay Village/St. Ignatius), sophomore All-OAC midfielder Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) and sophomore midfielder Jack Gerlack (Rocky River). 

In the third the Scots outscored the Yellow Jackets 2-1 with their last goal when sophomore midfielder Jake Ellens scored at the 5:06 mark. Sophomore attack Mike Nanosky (Medina) scored the lone BW goal and was assisted by senior face-off specialist Alex Fioritto (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) with 6:30 left in the quarter.

Alma cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 8-6 with another goal when Irrer beat the BW goalkeeper at the 13:39 mark. BW would outscore the Scots 2-1 in the final 12 minutes with goals from Gerlack at the 12:11 mark and McDowell with 10:02 remaing.

BW is back in action on Saturday, March 18 when it travels to Alfred, New York for non-conference game against Alfred (N.Y.) University on Merrill Field inside Yunevich Stadium at 1 p.m.

FOUR STRIAGHT WINS: The men's lacrosse team has won its last four matches, including at 10-7 win last Saturday at Alma (Mich.) College, and have outscored its opponents, 53-18.

MEN'S LACROSSE AND WOMEN'S LACROSSE HOST MUSKINGUM IN DH:  On Saturday, March 25, the men's and women's lacrosse teams will host Muskingum University in a doubleheader at The George Finnie Stadium. The women play at 12:00 noon and the men play the Fighting Muskies at 3 p.m.
