Men’s Basketball Drops OAC Game to Otterbein

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference game to Otterbein University by a final score of 74-71 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (11-8, 6-6 OAC) was led by sophomore All-OAC guard Drew Wennes (Huron) who scored 20 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Junior guard Jake Snyder (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) had 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. Junior All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Otterbein (14-6, 8-5 OAC) was led sophomore guard Cam Evans who scored 20 points and had eight rebounds. Senior All-OAC forward Justin Carter and junior All-OAC guard Dallas Patrick each added 12 points. Senior Academic All-OAC guard Jake Justice had 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets got on top early with 7-2 run to open the game. BW was able to build up to a 10-point lead with 12:44 remaining. But the Cardinals started to climb back with an 8-0 run to cut the Yellow Jackets to 21-19. With 4:49 remaining in the half, Otterbein was able to tie things up. Another 10-2 run by the Cardinals gave them the first lead and expanded it to 32-27. The teams continued to battle but the lead stayed the same at 36-31.

Otterbein started the scoring in the scoring in the second half, but BW quickly responded. A 9-3 run by the Cardinals gave them a double-digit lead. The Yellow Jackets started to get into a rhythm and got a 10-3 run to close the Otterbein lead to 71-68 with 2:44 remaining. After a Cardinal basket, Wennes hit a big three to cut the lead down to two at 73-71. On the final possession the Yellow Jackets got two looks from three, but the ball bounced around the rim and fell off as Otterbein took the three point victory.

BW returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, February 9th when they host Ohio Northern University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game at 7:00 p.m. in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
