TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team fell in an Ohio Athletic Conference game to Heidelberg University by a final score of 65-64 in the Seiberling Gymnasium.

BW (11-5, 6-3 OAC) was led by junior All-OAC guard Anthony Mazzeo (North Canton/Massillon Jackson) who scored 15 points and had five rebounds. Sophomore guard Drew Wennes (Huron) contributed 14 points. Junior guard Jake Snyder (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) had 11 points and six assists.

Heidelberg (13-3, 8-2 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC Dylan Woods who had 17 points. Senior All-OAC guard Emmanuel Perdue added 16 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore guard Zane Leitwein scored 13 points and had eight boards. Freshman guard Isaiah Young scored 10 points.

The first half was a tight battle, but the Student Princes held onto the lead most of the half. They opened the half getting the first two buckets. Sophomore forward Christian Pfeiffer (Amherst) followed up with four quick points of his own to tie things up. The game stayed close until Heidelberg went on a 7-0 run to get a nine-point lead. However, BW worked their back into the game over the last five minutes. They grabbed their first lead of the game with nine seconds remaining after a three from Snyder. The Student Princes responded with a last second floater to take a one-point lead into the half. Mazzeo led the Yellow Jackets with nine points in the half.

The teams played back and forth basketball with neither team getting more than three-point lead. BW was able to grab the lead quickly off a Snyder three. The teams continued to battle, and Heidelberg retook the lead, but Wennes quickly responded with a three of his own. Wennes knocked down three three pointers in the second half as he was tied for the team lead in points for the half. The teams continued to go back and forth until the last seconds. A three by the Student Princes put them up by two with under ten seconds remaining. The Yellow Jackets were able to cut the lead in half but fell just short as Heidelberg won 65-64.

BW returns to the court on Saturday, January 29th when they travel to Marietta to take on No. 6 nationally ranked Marietta College in the second game of an Ohio Athletic Conference men's and women's doubleheader at 3:00 p.m. in the Ban Johnson Arena.
