BW Volleyball Defeats Cross-Town Rival John Carroll in Dig for Cure Match
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeats cross-town rival John Carroll University in straight sets, 3-0, tonight (Tuesday, October 16, 2012) in an Ohio Athletic Conference match inside the DeCarlo Varsity Center. The scores of the Dig for the Cure match were 25-21, 25-18 and 25-16.
With its win, BW improves to 11-15 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. With its loss, JCU falls to 10-16 overall and 0-6 in the OAC.
BW was led offensively by senior All-OAC outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with a match-high 11 kills. In addition, senior right side hitter Karianne Sifferlin (Wooster) and senior All-OAC middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) each contributed eight. Junior setter Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) set up the offense and had a match-high 30 set assists.
Defensively, BW was led by senior libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with 10 digs. Nagle and sophomore outside hitter and defensive specialist Taylor Burns (Tiffin/St. Fostoria Wendelinn) each added nine and eight digs, respectively.
The Blue Streaks were led by junior outside hitter Teresa Noewer with eight kills. Junior outside hitter Letty Barbi also tallied seven. Setting up the offense was sophomore setter Jessica Kodrich with 25 set assists. Defensively, JCU was led by Barbi with 12 digs. Freshman defensive specialist Sara Kaminski and sophomore defensive specialist Danielle Sample each added 11 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they travel to Columbus to play OAC-rival Capital University in The Capital Center Gymnasium at 11:00 a.m. The final two home matches are on Tuesday, Oct. 23 versus the University of Mount Union at 7:00 p.m. and versus Marietta College on Seniors' Day on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 12:00 noon.
