NEW CONCORD, OHIO-- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeated host Muskingum University, 3-0, in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for each team on Performance Court in the Muskingum Recreation Center. The scores of the matches were 25-22, 25-14 and 25-18.
With its win, BW is now 6-9 overall and 1-0 in the OAC and next plays this weekend at the OAC/ HCAC (Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference "Challenge" at Transylvania University in Lexington, Kentucky. With its loss, Muskingum is 10-5 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.
Leading the way on offensive was Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Holy Name) with 14 kills and Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) had 10 kills. Setting up the offense was junior Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/ Columbia) who had 32 set assists. On defense, senior libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland) led with 21 digs and Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelinn) had 16 digs.
On Friday, Sept. 21 in Lexington, BW will face Hanover (Ind.) College at 1:00 p.m. and the College of Mount St. Joseph at 5:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Yellow Jackets play Bluffton University at 10:00 a.m. and host Transylvania at 2:00 p.m.
Next week, BW begins a three-match home stand when it hosts nonleague and cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m., then OAC-rival Otterbein University on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. and then ends it against NCAA Division II Notre Dame College on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. All three matches will be played in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.
