BW Falls Twice on Final Day of Marcia French Invitational

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team loses a pair of matches on the final day of the 14th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational today (Saturday, September 8, 2012) in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.   The tournament is being co-hosted by Case Western Reserve University with matches being played at the Veale Center.

Teams that competed in the tournament included co-hosts BW and Case as well as Buffalo State (N.Y.) University, Franciscan University, Franklin & Marshall (Pa.) College, John Carroll University, Westminster (Pa.) College and The College of Wooster.
 
With the losses, the Yellow Jackets fall to 3-6 overall and Head Coach Vickie Brault needs just one more victory to win her 400th career match. 
In its first match, BW fell to Westminster, 3-2 in five sets by scores of 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 14-25 and 15-7. Leading the way offensively for the Yellow Jackets was senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Holy Name) with 14 kills. In addition, freshman outside hitter Savannah Moore (Burbank/ Northwestern) contributed 11 kills. Setting up the offense was junior Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) who had 30 set assists. On defense, senior libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland) led with 47 digs while junior right side hitter Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) recorded 25.

In its second match, BW was defeated by John Carroll, 3-1, in four sets by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-22 and 25-19. Leading the way on offensive was Deleur and Moore as they each recorded eight kills each, respectively. In addition, Sawicki contributed seven kills. Setting up the office once again was Nagle as she recorded 29 set assists. Defensively, Emmons led the Yellow Jackets with 25 digs while sophomore Paige Pileski (Elyria) added 11.
 
Emmons was named as a member of the All-Invitational team for her outstanding efforts on the court. For the Invitational, she recorded 131 digs.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 12 when they travel to Hiram, Ohio to play the Hiram College Terriers at 7:00 p.m. Next weekend, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15, the Yellow Jackets travel to Salisbury, Maryland to participate in the Salisbury University Seagull Classic.
