Volleyball Team Wins Home Opener With Shutout of Oberlin

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team won its home opener by shutting out  Oberlin College, 3-0 by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-17, tonight in the Ursprung Gymnasium.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-3 overall while Oberlin falls to 2-3.

BW was led offensively by freshman outside hitter Savannah Moore (Burbank/ Northwestern) with nine kills. In addition, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/ Holy Name) contributed eight kills. Juniors Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) and Colleen Bonacci (Stow/ Stow-Monroe Falls) each had six kills.  The offense was set up by senior setter Jessica Stitts (Eastlake/ North) with 28 set assists.

Defensively, BW was led by senior libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with 13 defensive digs and junior outside hitter Taylor Burns (Tiffin/ Fostoria St. Wendelin) contributed nine digs.

BW will remain at home this weekend when it will co-host the 14th Annual Marcia French Memorial Tournament with Case Western Reserve University on Friday and Saturday, September 7-8 in the Ursprung Gymnasium and Veale Center. The Yellow Jackets will face Buffalo State (N.Y.) and Wooster on Friday at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. and then take on Westminster (Pa.) and John Carroll on Saturday at 10:30 am and 12:30 pm.
