LEXINGTON, KENTUCKY -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Ohio Athletic Conference/ Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Challenge hosted by Transylvania University.
With its split, BW is now 7-10 overall and plays tomorrow in the second and final day of the OAC/ HCAC Challenge . The Yellow Jackets first face Bluffton University at 10:00 a.m. and then host Transylvania at 2:00 p.m.
In its match versus Hanover, BW fell in four sets by scores of 20-25, 22-25, 25-22 and 24-26. Leading the way on offensive was senior outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with 14 kills and senior All-OAC middle hitter Rachel Switalski (North Royalton/Holy Name) with 13. Setting up the offense was junior Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) who had 33 set assists and sophomore Katie Primeau (Pemberville/Eastwood) contributed five. On defense, senior libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland) led with 26 digs while junior outside hitter Taylor Burns (Tiffin /Fostoria St. Wendelin) added eight.
In their match with Mount St. Joseph, the Yellow Jackets won in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-20. Sawicki once again lead the offense with 10 kills and junior middle hitter Kayla Harris (Lima) added nine. Nagle set up the offense with 31 set assists. Burns anchored the defense with 16 kills while Emmons and junior right side hitter Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) each tallied 15.
Next week, BW begins a three-match home stand when it hosts non-league and cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University on Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 7:00 p.m., then OAC-rival Otterbein University on Friday, Sept. 28 at 7:00 p.m. and ends the home stand against NCAA Division II Notre Dame College on Wednesday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m.
