Arroyo Garners Fourth Career OAC Wrestling Weekly Honor

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio –  Baldwin Wallace University junior All-American and All-Ohio Athletic Conference wrestler Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) has been selected as the OAC Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season and the fourth time in his career.  

Arroyo, who earned the weekly honor on January 8 as well as once as a sophomore and aas a freshman, went a perfect 5-0 last week to lead the two-time defending OAC champion and sixth-nationally ranked Yellow Jackets to an OAC victory over Muskingum University last Tuesday and a fourth-place finish at the 32nd Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

Arroyo, who is ranked fourth nationally at 165-pounds, opened the week by earning a 16-0 technical fall against Tanner of Muskingum.  He closed out the week by posting a perfect 4-0 record and the 165-pound championship at the Summa Tournament.  At Summa, Arroyo pinned Nick Walker of Brockport (N.Y.) University in 4:09, earned a 17-2 technical fall over Brock Jones of Ohio Northern University, won by pinfall over Tanner Walker of Muskingum in 1:30 and claimed the championship with an 8-0 major decision over Keegan Driscoll of NCAA Division II Wheeling Jesuit (W. Va.) University 8-0.

This season, he has a record of 25-1 with eight pins, five technical falls and two major decisions.

For his career, Arroyo ranks 18th in school history with 82 victories with 41 pins and just 16 losses.  He is a two-time first-team All-OAC selection, an All-Mideast region selection and first-team D3wrestling.com All-Freshman pick.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, February 6 when they travel to Tiffin for an OAC dual match against Heidelberg University in the Seiberling Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.  BW closes out the 2017-18 regular season portion of its schedule on Tuesday, February 13 when it hosts an OAC match against ninth-nationally ranked University of Mount Union in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
