No. 9 Wrestling Wins Four Matches at Mount Union Duals

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion and ninth-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team won all four of its matches at the University of Mount Union Duals in the Peterson Fieldhouse inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.  

BW (5-0) opened the duals by defeating No. 6-nationally ranked Messiah (Pa.) College by a score of 24-16.   The Yellow Jackets then defeated Alma (Mich.) College by a score of 39-9 in their second match.   BW won its third match of the day with a 45-9 victory over Greensboro (N.C.) College.   In their final match of the day, the Yellow Jackets defeated Wilkes (Pa.) College by a score of 43-3.

Against Messiah, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green), who is ranked fourth nationally, picked up an 8-5 decision.  Freshman 141-pounder Tanner McHugh (New Ringgold, Pa. / Tamaqua) earned a 5-0 decision victory.  Freshman Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic) got a 9-6 decision win.  Junior All-OAC 157-pounder Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y.), who is 10th in the national rankings, won by pinfall in 3:33.   Junior All-American 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee), who is ranked second nationally, earned the 7-5 decision victory.   Senior 285-pounder Gabe Mahaney (Green), who is eighth nationally ranked, closed out the match with a pinfall in 2:50.

In the match with Alma, Doyle won his match at 125-pounds by a major decision of 13-2.  Sophomore 133-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk) pinned his opponent in 2:24. Sophomore 149-pounder Nick Sbrocco (Perry) earned a major decision victory by a score of 10-2.  Burke pinned his opponent at 157 pounds in 1:37. Junior All-OAC 165-pounder Benjamin Hoof (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) earned a technical fall by a score of 15-0.  Junior 174-pounder Justin Ransom (Madison), who is 10th in the national rankings, earned a 15-4 major decision victory.  Junior All-OAC 184-pounder Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) picked up a 12-4 major decision win.  Mahaney won by pinfall at 285-pounds in 1:55.

Against Greensboro, freshman 125-pounder Chad Craft (Dayton/Northmont) pinned his opponent in 2:23. Sophomore 133-pounder Dante Ginnetti (Poland/Seminary) earned a 19-2 technical fall. Sophomore 141-pounder Aaron Kelley (Rocky River) earned a major decision victory by a score of 11-3.  Sbrocco, Burke and Arroyo all picked up victories by forfeit at the 149, 157 and 165 weight classes.  Senior 174-pounder Grant Rathburn (New Albany/Bishop Hartley) won by pinfall in 2:09.  Sophomore 285-pounder Eddie Sternad (Brecksville/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) closed out the match with a pin in 2:01. 

In the match vs. Wilkes, Doyle won the match at 125-pounds by technical with a score of 16-0. Nash won a 4-0 decision at 133 pounds.  Kelly picked up a 16-5 major decision at 141 pounds. Burke won by pinfall in just 37 seconds at 157 pounds.  Arroyo picked up his third win of the day with a technical fall at 165 pounds by a score of 15-0.  Lehman took the match at 184 pounds by pinfall in 1:52. Senior All-OAC 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) earned a major decision victory by a score of 14-4.  Mahaney closed out the day with a pinfall at 285 pounds in 52 seconds.                   

BW is back in action on Tuesday, November 28 when it travels to Ada for an OAC match against Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 7:30 p.m.
