Wrestling Defeats Crosstown Rival John Carroll to Open 2017-18 Season

BEREA, Ohio – The two-time defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team opened the 2017-18 season and the 2017-18 OAC Conference of the schedule as it defeated crosstown rival John Carroll University by a final score of 42-3 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (1-0, 1-0 OAC) has now won five straight matches against John Carroll (0-1, 0-1 OAC) 

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore 133-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk), junior All-American 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) and senior 285-pounder Gabe Mahaney (Green) each pick up the win by pinfall.   Nash pinned his opponent in 35 seconds, Arroyo got the fall in and Mahaney closed out the match with the fall in 1:05.

In addition, senior All-OAC 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green) won by technical fall by a score of 17-2.  Sophomore 141-pounder Aaron Kelley (Rocky River) picked up his first career OAC victory as he won by forfeit. Junior All-OAC 157-pounder Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y.) won by major decision by a score of 14-2.

Also, picking up victories by decision were junior 174-pounder Justin Ransom (Madison), junior All-OAC 184-pounder Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) and senior All-OAC 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy).  Ransom won by a score of 3-1, Lehman earned the win by a count of 6-2 and Maclellan got the 5-2 win.

BW is back in action on Saturday, November 11 when it travels to Angola, Indiana to compete in the Trine University Invitational inside the Keith E. Busse/Steel Dynamics Athletic and Recreation Center at 10 a.m.   Fans can follow the action via live results at http://bit.ly/2ypVktc.
