Four Wrestlers Named to NWCA All-Academic Team

MANHEIM, Pa. – Four Baldwin Wallace University wrestling student-athletes have been named to the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division III All-Academic Team.

Freshman All-OAC 149-pounder Stanley Bleich (North Ridgeville/Elyria Catholic), sophomore All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 133-pounder Dante Ginnetti (Poland/Seminary), senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and sophomore Academic All-OAC 141-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk) are four of the 189 individuals to be named to the All-Academic Team.

Nominees must have at least a 3.2 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for the previous full academic year. Transfers and freshmen are eligible if they have been in residence at their current institution beginning in the fall of 2017. On the competition side, wrestlers must be a national qualifier in 2017-18 and have a minimum win percentage of at least .500.

Bleich has a perfect 4.0 GPA after one semester and has not declared a major yet. Heis making a statement in his first collegiate season as he placed third at the Central Regional to qualify for the tournament. Tied with Arroyo for the third-most wins on the team this year, Bleich looks to build on a 31-9 record that includes five pins, one technical fall, a second-team All-OAC selection and an All-Central Region honor.

Ginnetti is an accounting major who carries a 3.98 GPA. A Dean's List student, he was named to the All-OAC first team, an Academic All-OAC honoree, an All-Central Region selection and is a qualifier to the 2018 NCAA Division III National Tournament. This season, he led the team with 35 wins and 18 pins. In just two years, Ginnetti has a 59-18 record with 30 pins and five technical falls.

Maclellan is an accounting major who carries a 3.59 GPA. Academically, he is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Societies, a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American and a three-time Academic All-OAC selection. Athletically, he is a four-time All-OAC selection and a two-time NCAA Division III National Tournament qualifier. This season, he has a 29-10 record with four pins and two technical falls. In his career, Maclellan has compiled a mark of 95-46, which is tied for eighth-most wins in school history.

Nash is an economics major who carries a 3.61 GPA. He is a Dean's List student, an NWCA Scholar All-American, an Academic All-OAC selection and a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). He is also a 2018 NCAA Division III All-Central Region honoree and a National Tournament qualifier. This season, Nash has compiled a 26-12 record with nine pins and two technical falls and has 52 wins for his career. 

Additionally, the wrestling team as a whole carries a cumulative GPA of 3.4755, which ranks as the 18th-highest GPA in Division III. One other OAC team cracks the top 30 as Ohio Northern University comes in at No. 2

All four wrestlers will compete at the 2018 NCAA Division III National Tournament, hosted by Baldwin Wallace and the Greater Cleveland Sports Commission March 9-10 at Cleveland's historic Public Auditorium.
