BW Men’s Tennis Splits a Pair of Matches on First Day of Spring Break Trip

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis opened its annual spring break trip by splitting a pair of matches. 

BW (5-1) opened the day with a 9-0 shutout of Nazareth (N.Y.) College and closed out its first day of competition with a 5-4 loss to Carroll (Wis.) University.

In doubles action the Yellow Jackets won three of six matches.   The number one team of All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville /Olantangy Orange) won their match against Nazareth by a score of 8-1.  The number two tandem of sophomore Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and sophomore Jake Liebler (Medina) posted an 8-2 victory against the Golden Flyers and the number three team of junior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and sophomore Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) earned an 8-1 win against Nazareth.

In singles action four BW players each tallied two wins.   Ganim won both his matches at number two singles with scores of 6-1 and 6-1 against the Golden Flyers and 6-1 and 6-3 against Carroll.  Liebler earned two wins at number four singles by scores of 7-6, 6-4 against Nazareth and 6-3 and 6-2 against the Saints.  Fredrick won both his matches at fifth singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-4 against the Golden Flyers and 6-1 and 6-3 versus Carroll.  Carano tallied victories at number six singles with identical scores of 6-0 against Nazareth and had a three set-thriller against the Saints with scores 6-3, 4-6 and 12-10.

In addition, Harris and Katz each won their singles matches against Nazareth.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Monday, March 9 when they play Juniata (Pa.) College in the third of five matches in Hilton Head at 8 a.m.
