OBERLIN, Ohio --  Ten Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis student-athletes competed at last weekend's season-opening and unscored Oberlin College Invitational.  BW combined for a 23-17 overall record during tournament play.

"This was a great opportunity for our young men to get out on the court and plays some competitive tennis," said 26th-year Head Coach Brian Rector, the winningest collegiate men's tennis coach in Ohio Athletic Conference and Ohio history. "We had some good efforts and overall I am pleased.

"Peter Harris played well and had an opportunity to go 3-0 in singles and be unbeaten for the weekend, but he suffered some leg cramps in one of his singles matches and had to retire," continued Rector. "It was unfortunate becuase he had won the first set and was leading in the second.  Luckily he is fine and was able to play the next day."

In singles play, six Yellow Jacket players each recorded two wins and a 2-1 record.  They were junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/Revere), junior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold), junior All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange), sophomore Brian Carano (Akron/Revere), senior Dan Rowsey (Ashland) and senior Letch Radomirov (Fairview Park/ Fairview).  Harris nearly had a 3-0 mark and was beating his Case Western Reserve opponent, 6-1 in the first set and 3-2 in the second, but had to retire due to an injury.

In doubles play, a pair of duos, the tandem of Harris and Ganim and the team of Rowsey and freshman Alex Papke (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) each had a 2-0 slate, and the other three duos all posted a 1-1 mark.

The Yellow Jackets continue fall play this weekend when they travel to Crawfordsville, Indiana and Wabash College to compete at the annual ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Central Regional. The 2014 fall season ends on Saturday, October 4 when BW hosts Westminster (Pa.) College in a dual match on Homecoming Weekend at 11:00 a.m.
