BW Men’s Tennis Team Beats Grove City (Pa.) to Extend Winning Streak

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team won its ninth straight dual match today when it defeated non-conference foe Grove City (Pa.) College, 6-3, on the "Pop" Collins Courts in a rare men's and women's double-dual match.

The BW men (14-1) won two of three doubles matches to build a 2-1 lead. The No.1 duo of junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC standout Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange) won 8-0 to improve to 17-3 this season and 60-17 for their careers to rank 16th all-time in school history.

In addition, the No.2 tandem of sophomores Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/ Bexley) and Jake Liebler (Medina) won 8-3 to improve to 12-5 this season.  GCC (3-5) won at No.3 doubles.

In singles play, BW won four of six singles matches to claim the victory. At No.1, Harris won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-1 to improve to 16-4 this season and 60-13 in his career to move into a tie for 15th place all-time. At No.2, Ganim won by a 6-1 and 6-3 to improve to 15-3 this season and 57-13 in his career to rank 18th all-time.

In addition at No.5, junior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) won by a 6-3, 1-6 and 12-10 in the third-set tie-breaker to improve to 13-3 this season. At No.6 sophomore, Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) won by the scores of 6-4 and 6-4 to improve to 13-2 this season and 18-4 in his career.

BW is back in action this Wednesday, April 15 when it hosts OAC-rival Ohio Northern University in a key OAC dual match on the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex at 3:30 p.m.
