BW Men’s Tennis Shuts Out Catholic, 9-0, in Hilton Head, S.C.

HILTON HEAD, South Carolina – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team shut out the Catholic (Washington D.C.) University of America, 9-0, in its final spring break match at the Hilton Head (S.C.) Tennis & Beach Club.  The Yellow Jackets (8-1) had a 4-1 mark in Hilton Head.

In doubles action, BW took a 3-0 lead as the number-one duo of junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC student-athlete Peter Harris (Akron/ Richfield Revere) and junior All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville/ Olentangy Orange), this week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, won by the score of 8-0 to improve to 11-3 this season and 54-17 in their careers and rank 24th all-time in school history.

In addition in doubles, the No.2 tandem of sophomore Nathan Katz (Bexley/ Upper Arlington), last week's OAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week, and sophomore Jake Liebler (Medina) won, 8-2, to improve to 6-5 overall; and the No.3 team of sophomore Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and sophomore Brian Carano (Akron/ Richfield Revere) won by default and improved to 11-3. Catholic only had five healthy players and had to default at No.3 doubles and No.6 singles.

In singles play, Harris won at No.1 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to improve to 11-4 this season and 55-13 in his career and move into 17th place on the all-time Yellow Jacket win list. At No.2 singles, Ganim won by the scores of 6-2 and 6-0 and improved to 10-3 this season and 52-13 in his career and moved into a tie for 25th all-time.

In addition in singles play, Katz won at No.3 by the scores of 6-1 and 6-0 to improve to 7-7 this season; Liebler won at No.4 by a 6-3 and 6-4 count to improve to 9-6; Fredrick won at No.5 by the scores of 6-0 and 6-0 to improve to 10-2 this season; and Carano won at No.6 by default to improve to 10-1 this seasn.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, March 21 when BW travels to Defiance, Ohio to play Defiance College in a non-league match at 10 a.m.  The first home match is an OAC match against Cleveland cross-town and OAC-rival John Carroll University on Tuesday, April 7 at the "Pop" Collins Tennis Complex at 3:30 p.m.
