BW Men’s Soccer Team Finishes Third at the Blue Devil Tournament

FREDONIA, N.Y.—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team broke its four game losing streak when they defeated Fredonia State (N.Y.) University on day two of the Blue Devil Tournament, 3-2, Saturday evening on the soccer field inside of University Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets (2-4) out shot Fredonia (0-5) 14 to two in the first half and had a 3-0 lead going into halftime. Freshman midfielder Brayton Thornburg (Columbus, Ind./ North) opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at the 4:12 mark.

BW added to their lead later in the first half when junior midfielder Patrick O'Malley (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield) scored his fourth goal of the season in the 11th minute, and senior Aaron Harden (Mentor) scored his first goal of the season in the 41st minute.

In the second half Fredonia scored two unanswered goals in the 79th and 89th minutes to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to one.

Senior goalkeeper Zach Haynes (Medina) came up big in the last minute making two strong saves to prevent the game from going into overtime.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action Tuesday, September 15 when they host Allegheny College (Pa.) in a non-conference game on Tressel Field inside of George Finne Stadium at 7 p.m.
