BEREA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team was defeated by cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University, 2-1, in its home opener Wednesday evening on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

Case Western (3-1) scored the only goal of the first half when senior forward Matthew Zembas got the direct kick past the Yellow Jackets (1-3) goaltender.

BW opened up scoring in the second half when a long cross by sophomore midfielder Luke Westkamp (Pickerington/North) led to a header goal by junior forward Craig Wallace (Boxford, Mass./Tilton School) to tie the game at 1-1 at the 61:11 mark. Case then countered with a breakaway goal from junior midfielder Jacob Grindel off of an assist from senior Chris Cvecko to give them the late 2-1 lead in the 73rd minute.

Senior goaltender Zach Haynes (Medina) is now 1-3 on the year.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action this weekend when they travel to Fredonia, New York for the Blue Devil Tournament. BW opens the tournament Friday, September 11 at 1 p.m. against Buffalo State (N.Y.) University at University Stadium.
