Men’s Soccer Shuts Out Bluffton in Season Opener

BLUFFTON, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team opened up its 2015 season with a 2-0 shutout victory against Bluffton University at the Sears Complex. 

BW (1-0), who has now won two out of its last three season openers, scored the first goal of the season and of the opening period when junior midfielder Patrick O'Malley (Sheridan, Ind./Westfield) found the back of the net off the cross from senior midfielder Nick Gallo (Richfield/Revere) at the 17 minute mark.

The Yellow Jackets put the game away and scored the games second and final goal when sophomore midfielder Jack Shirley (Dublin /Scioto) netted his first collegiate goal at the 73rd mark.  Freshman defender JT Taubeneck (Cleveland/Normandy) was credited with the assist.

Senior goalkeeper Zach Haynes (Medina) recorded his fourth career win and his second career shutout as he faced six shots and made three saves.

Bluffton (0-1) has now lost five straight games to open the season.

BW is back in action on Saturday, September 5 when it travels to Erie, Pennsylvania to compete in the two-day the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament, as it will face host Penn State-Behrend in the first round at 12p.m.
