Five Men's Soccer Players Named All-OAC; Grater is Midfielder of the Year

 The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team placed five players on the 2010 All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Senior midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls) was named to the first team and as the OAC's Midfielder of the Year. In addition, junior defender Andy Thompson (Huron), senior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls), junior forward Carlin Vandendriessche (Medina/ Senior) and sophomore midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) were all selected to the second team.

Grater, who scored twice and had one assist for five points and led a B-W defense that allowed 25 goals in 22 matches en route to a 12-6-4 overall record, is a first team choice for the second straight year.  He was the Most Valuable Player at the SUNY-Fredonia (N.Y.) Tournament and led B-W to a team title. A year ago, Grater was tabbed to the NSCAA All-Region team. In addition to his athletics exploits, the two-time team captain also was named first-team ESPN Academic All-District IV for the second straight year, is a two-time 2009 Academic All-OAC choice and carries a 3.9 grade point average. He is currently a candidate for Academic All-OAC and ESPN Academic All-America accolades.

Vandendriessche made an impact for the third year in a row and is earning All-OAC accolades for the third straight season, including his second second-team All-OAC honor. He earned first-team All-OAC honors a year ago.  This season, Vandendriessche scored eight goals for 16 points to rank third on the team and led the squad with 76 shots and tied Leister for the most match-winning goals with three. After three seasons, he has 30 goals and five assists for 65 career points.  His 30 goals rank fourth all-time in school history.

Leister finished this season with career-highs in goals (11), assists (7) and points (29) and finished a brilliant four-year varsity career second all-time in goals scored (33) and third in points scored (80). This season, he also earned all tourney honors during the SUNY-Fredonia Classic and was tabbed to three all-tourney teams during his career.  

Brennan had his best season as a collegian and scored a career-high eight goals and added three assists to rank second on the team with 19 points. In addition, he was selected to the ESPN Academic All-District first-team and is currently a candidate for ESPN Academic All-America accolades. Brennan, who carries a 3.79 grade average, will enter his junior season with 12 goals and nine assists for 33 career points scored.

Thompson finished the season with one goal and had the second most assists on the team with six for eight total points. He played in all 22 games and earned his third varsity letter as a three-year starter.   Thompson will enter his senior season with five goals and 10 assists for 20 total points.
