BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team shut out Ohio Athletic Conference rival Marietta College, 3-0, today (Saturday, October 2, 2010) in the season-opening OAC match for both teams in Marietta.  This was the opener of a men's and then women's doubleheader. The B-W women play Marietta at 3:30 p.m.

With its win, B-W is now 8-2-2 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, and next plays on Tuesday, Oct. 5 when it travels to Columbus to play OAC-rival Capital University at 4:00 p.m. With its loss, Marietta is now 0-8-3 overall and 0-1 in the OAC.

The Yellow Jackets opened the scoring at the 3:41 mark of the first half when junior midfielder Andy Thompson (Huron) scored from 30 yards out when his shot hit the post and went into the goal.  The score remained 1-0 at halftime.

Early in the second half, B-W increased its lead to 2-0 at the 49-minute mark when sophomore midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) scored from six yards out via an assist from senior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/ Stow-Munroe Falls). B-W scored its final goal at 89:40 when senior MF Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior) tallied on a shot that hit the post and then the goalie and then went into the net.

The Yellow Jackets outshot the Pioneers, 18-10, but Marietta cornered BW, 9-4.

In net, B-W sophomore Ryan Hulings (Centerville) played all 90 minutes and made two saves for the shuout.

Following its match at Capital next Tuesday, B-W travels to Westerville on Oct. 9 for an OAC doubleheader at Otterbein University with the women playing at 1:00 p.m. and the men kicking off at 3:30 p.m.
