Men's Soccer Team Defeats Capital University 3-2, in Quarterfinals of OAC Tournament in Bexley

BEREA, OHIO -- The  Baldwin-Wallace College men's soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Capital University, 3-2, today (Tuesday, November 1, 2010) in the quarterfinals of the OAC Tournament at Bernlohr Stadium in Bexley, Ohio.  

With the win, B-W has now won four straight games and improves to 12-5-4 overall.  The Yellow Jackets will advance to  OAC semifinals for the second straight season and will face the #2 seed Ohio Northern University Polar Bears on Thursday, November 4th in Ada, Ohio at 2:00 p.m.   The winner of tonight's match between the #5 seed John Carroll University and the #4 seed the University of Mount Union  will advance to the other semifinals match to face #1 seed Heidelberg University on Thursday, November 2nd in Tiffin, Ohio at 7:00 p.m.  With its loss, Capital ends its season at 13-6 overall.


In the first half, the Crusaders jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Josh Thaboune headed the corner kick assist from Daniel McCarthy into the back of the net just 2:42 into the game. Capital extended its lead (2-0) when Daniel McCarthy knocked in a shot off an assist from Mitch Weaver at 18:50.  B-W responded and cut into the lead (2-1) at 25:15 when senior and 2010 ESPN Academic All-District IV midfielder Jeff Grater (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) tallied his second goal of the season as he buried a shot to the far post from 28-yards out.  The Yellow Jackets evened the score (2-2) when sophomore and 2010 ESPN Academic All-District IV midfielder Pat Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) slid a shot pass Crusader goaltender Bob Weisgarber off the career-high seventh assist of the season from senior forward Tyler Leister (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) at 37:24.   The goal was the career-best seventh of the season for Brennan.


In the second half, B-W took its first lead of the game (3-2) when Leister scored the game-winning unassisted goal at 54:35.   The goal marked the third game-winning goal of the season as well as the career-high 11th of the season for 
Leister.   

Overall, Capital outshot the Yellow Jackets, 16-15, and also out cornered BW, 7-6.

In goal, sophomore goalie Ryan Hulings (Centerville) faced 16 Crusaders shots and made eight saves.
