Men’s Lacrosse Scores Season-High 24 Goals in OAC Opening Victory Versus Muskingum

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace men's lacrosse team opened Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 24-1 victory over Muskingum University in game two of the women's and men's doubleheader on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (5-1), who took a school-record 81 shots and won its fifth straight game, was led by sophomore attackmen Mike Nanosky (Medina) and Blake Bower (Lewiscender/Olentangy) as they each recorded a team-high five points. Nanosky scored two goals and added three assists and Bower scored a game-high tying four goals and added one assist. In addition, sophomore midfielder Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) scored a game-high tying four goals. Defensively, senior All-OAC face-off specialist Alex Fioritto (Akron/Walsh Jesuit) won 12 of 15 face-offs.  

Muskingum (2-4) was led by, junior goalkeeper Phillip Dappen as he made a game-high 28 saves. Junior midfielder Tucker Haas scored the only goal for the Fighting Muskies.

The Yellow Jackets capped off a 3-0 run to open the game when junior midfielder Matt McDowell (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) buried a goal at the 10:09 mark. Muskingum scored its only goal of the game when Tucker Haas (Columbus/Worthington Ki) beat the BW goalkeeper with 8:25 left in the first. The Yellow Jackets closed out the first quarter with a 4-0 run as junior midfielder Derek Andrews (Alden, N.Y./Iroquois) scored an unassisted at the 2:29 mark.

In the second quarter the Yellow Jackets scored all five goals with the last coming when Nanosky netted an unassisted goal at the 6:34 mark.  Freshman Riley Mahon (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd), Steinwachs, junior attack Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) and junior midfielder Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) also scored for BW giving them a 12-1 at halftime.

To open the second half, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Fighting Muskies 7-0 in the third quarter with their last goal when sophomore attack Ethan Napieralski (Lancaster, N.Y.) scored off of a feed from Bower with 56 seconds left in the third. Also scoring for BW was freshman Ben Kubiak (Wooster), Steinwachs, Nanosky, freshman attack Griffin Dunkle (Amherst, N.Y./Central), Riemenschneider and Bower.

In the final 15 minutes of play the Yellow Jackets tacked on five to its lead with the final goal of the game coming from Bower off an assist from sophomore defender Zak DiPerna (Medina) with 5:41 remaining. Bower scored two other goals in the fourth and freshman attack Justin Presutti (Williamsville, N.Y./South) and senior attack Riley Morse (North Prarie, Wis./Mukwongo) each added goals for BW.

BW is back in action Tuesday, March 29 when it hosts St. Vincent (Pa.) College for a non-conference game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
