BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace men's lacrosse team defeated Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College by a score of 17-3 in a non-conference game on Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium.
BW (2-1) was led by sophomore All-OAC midfielders Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) and Judson Huston (Delaware/Rutherford B. Hayes) as they each scored career- best tying days with four goals. Defensively, sophomore All-OAC defender Brian Jandzinski (Lancaster, N.Y./Central) tallied three caused turnovers and one ground ball.
Washington and Jefferson (1-1) was led by, senior midfielder Kyle Heining as he scored two goals.
The Yellow Jackets scored the first seven goals of the game. Steinwachs led the charge with two goals, Huston, junior All-OAC attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River), junior midfielder Derek Andrews (Alden, N.Y./Iroquois), senior attack James Wilhelm (Bay Village/St. Ignatius) and junior midfielder Jack Gerlack (Rocky River) each contributed a goal for BW. Gerlack's goal capped off the 7-0 run with 9:56 mark left in the second quarter. The Presidents got on the board when senior midfielder Kyle Heining netted a power play goal assisted by senior midfielder Brian Whipkey at the 5:50 mark. The Yellow Jackets scored the final four goals of the half giving them a 11-1 at halftime. Junior midfielder Matt McDowell (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), junior attack Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), Huston and Steinwachs scored the four goals.
In the second half, the Yellow Jackets outscored the Presidents 6-2. Huston scored two and Steinwachs, McDowell, sophomore midfielder Johnathon Seibert (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois) and senior midfielder Joey Briski (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pine-Richland) added goals for BW. The Yellow Jackets outshot the Presidents 52-9 in the game and put 33 shots on goal.
BW is back in action on Wednesday, March 2 when it travels to Lexington, Kentucky for a non-conference game against Transylvania University inside Pat Deacon Stadium at 5 p.m.
