Today's Contest
Today is the final regular season game of the 2019 season for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it hosts No. 10 nationally-ranked and crosstown rival John Carroll University in an OAC showdown and the 31st Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy. Last week, the Yellow Jackets suffered just their second loss of the season as it fell to Ohio Northern University 35-28 in their road finale.  The Blue Streaks used a late fourth quarter touchdown to escape with a 17-13 road victory at Heidelberg University.

The Series
BW and John Carroll and Blue Streaks have met 58 times on the gridiron. The Blue Streaks leads the all-time series 29-25-4.  The Blue Streaks have won nine of the last 15 games.  The home team has won 13 of the past 17 meetings. The series began in 1923 when John Carroll defeated BW, 19-13. Three notable names who have taken part in this series, BW graduate and College Football Hall of Famers Lee Tressel '48 and Jim Tressel '75 and John Carroll grad and Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula.

Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy Series
John Carroll leads the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy series by a margin of 17-13, including winning six straight. The last Yellow Jacket victory came in the 2012 season when BW posted a 32-28 victory in University Heights. The Yellow Jackets scored 15 points in the final nine minutes to rally for the victory.

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert 
Hilvert is in his third season at BW and has a record of 21-8 and OAC slate of 18-8. He is 87-27 in his 11th overall season and is 0-2 against John Carroll. 

John Carroll Head Coach Rick Finotti 
Finotti is in his third season at John Carroll and has a record of 23-7 and OAC mark of 21-5. He is 2-0 vs. Baldwin Wallace.

Last Game vs. John Carroll -- Nov. 10, 2018
BW scored 35 points on 350 yards passing, 85 yards rushing and 435 total yards.  John Carroll scored 45 points, including the final 11 of the game on 384 yards rushing, 92 yards passing and 476 total yards. 

Scouting the Yellow Jackets
In week nine of the season, BW scored 28 points on 286 yards passing and 143 yards rushing for a 429 yards of total offense. Ohio Northern scored 35 points on 173 yards rushing, 155 yards passing and 328 yards of total offense.

BW Leaders
Offensively, freshman quarterback Keagan Armitage (Ashland) has completed 105 of 172  passes with four interceptions. Armitage ranks seventh in the OAC with 1,523 yards and is sixth in the league with 14 touchdowns. Sophomore All-OAC running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) leads the ground attack and is sixth in the OAC with 727 yards on 162 carries and is sixth in the league with eight touchdowns. Junior wideout Iyan Mitchell (Tampa, Fla./Robinson) leads the receiving corps and is tied for fifth in the OAC with 40 catches, tied for third in the league with 749 yards and is tied for tied in the conference with seven touchdowns.  Defensively, senior linebacker Josh Liberati (Lisbon/David Anderson) leads the team and is fifth in the OAC with 82 tackles.  Sophomore linebacker Nick Pankow (Medina) is second the squad and is tied for 12th in league with 68 stops.  Senior defensive back Jordyn Johnson (Akron/North) is third with 53 tackles but leads the team and is tied for fourth in OAC with eight pass breakups.

Scouting the Blue Streaks
In week nine of the season, John Carroll scored 17 points on 238 yards passing, 169 yards rushing and 407 yards of total  offense. Heidelberg scored 13 points on 201 yards passing, 84 yards rushing and 285 yards of total offense.

John Carroll Leaders
Offensively, junior quarterback Jake Floriea has completed 102-of-178 passes with six interceptions.  Floriea is fifth in the OAC with 1,710 and is tied for sixth with 14 touchdowns.   Junior All-OAC running back Michael Canganelli leads the ground game and is fifth in the OAC with 772 yards on 154 carries and is second in the league with 11 touchdowns.  Senior wideout Evan Nugent leads the receiving corps and is eighth in the OAC in yards with 585 and is tied for seventh in the league with seven touchdowns on 28 catches. Defensively,  senior All-OAC linebacker Chad Stalnaker leads the team and is tied for eighth in the conference with 74 tackles.  Junior defensive lineman Cal Reynolds leads the team and the league with nine quarterback sacks.

Seniors' Day
Today, the University will honor its senior football student-athletes and student coaches as well as their parents before the game.  At halftime, the senior members of the marching band and cheerleading squad along with their parents will be recognized.   Also at halftime, the University will honor Director of Athletic Bands Randy Border, who is retiring after the academic year, for his leadership of the Yellow Jacket Marching and Pep Bands.
