Today's Contest: 
Today is the opening game of the 2019 season for the Baldwin Wallace University football team as it travels to Alma, Michigan for its lone non-conference game of the season against the Alma (Mich.). Scots  BW finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 8-2 and mark of 7-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.  Alma ended its 2018 campaign with a 2-8 overall record and a 1-6 slate in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.  The Yellow Jackets have won eight of their last 11 season openers.

The Series: 
BW and Alma are meeting for just for the second time on the gridiron.  The Yellow Jackets won the inaugural meeting a season ago by a final score of 63-21.  

BW Head Coach Jim Hilvert: 
Hilvert is in his third season at BW and has a record of 14-6. He is 81-25 in 10 overall and is 1-0 against Alma. 

Alma Head Coach Jason Couch 
Couch is in his second season at Alma and has a record of 2-8. He is 0-1 against BW.

BW Leaders: 
Offensively,  sophomore running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow)returns as the main centerpiece of the Yellow Jacket offense after he rushed for 723 yards and a nine touchdowns. Murray, Jr. is also a threat out of the backfield as he caught nine passes for 91 yards.  The receiving corps will be lead by senior wideout Deion Greer (Toledo/Toledo Central Catholic) as he caught a career-best 40 passes for a career-high 414 yards with four touchdowns.  He also carried the ball 14 times for 125 yards with three touchdowns.  The signal calling duties will have a new face as senior A.J. Miller (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) will take over the play calling.  Defensively, BW returns six of its top seven tacklers from a season ago led by senior linebacker Josh Liberati (Lisbon/David Anderson).  Liberati recorded a career-high 59 tackles, including 5.5 for loss with three quarterback sacks.  Junior linebacker Brenton Miller (Carrollton) tied for second on the squad with 54 tackles and second on the team with five sacks. Senior defensive backs Raheem Wilson (Tampa, Fla./Gaither) and Jordyn Johnson (Akron/North) will anchor the backend of the defense and return after being the fifth and sixth tacklers a season ago.

Alma Leaders:
 
Offensively, the Scots will be led by senior quarterback Mason Ippel and junior QB Ryan Stevens.   The duo combined to complete 122 passes for 1,504 yards with 12 touchdowns.  The Alma rushing attack is led by Ippel who carried the ball 105 times for 444 yards with three touchdowns.  The receiving corps is led by senior wideout Chase Hinkle who caught 40 balls for 547 yards with five touchdowns.  On the defensive side of the ball, the Scots return four players that recorded 50 or more tackles a season ago.  Anchoring that group is senior linebacker Zeke Ramirez with 74.
