BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace UniversityThird-Year Head Football Coach Jim Hilvert has completed his coaching staff for the 2019 with the additions of Erick Anderson, George Attea, Antonio Gillems and Pat Lyons.
"I very excited to complete my staff this season with Erick, George, Antonio and Pat," stated Hilvert. Each of these coaches bring different and vast experiences to the table that will better our staff. We are happy to have them as part of the BW football family."
Anderson will serve as the inside linebackers coach. He currently is a teacher in the Shaker Heights School District where he serves as an Adapted Physical Education teacher for K-12 and the girls varsity lacrosse coach as well as the junior varsity assistant field hockey coach. Anderson served as the defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and special teams coordinator for the Red Raiders from 2002-09. He also coached at Gilmour Academy for two seasons where he was the defensive coordinator, linebackers coach and special teams coordinator. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Science from the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan. He was a four-year letterman in football and is the only Michigan player in school history to lead the team in tackles all four years with 428 career tackles. Anderson was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and as a senior was United Press International (UPI) and Football News All-American, the Associated Press (AP) Big Ten Defensive Player-of-the-Year the Butkus Award Winner and Jack Lambert Trophy recipient. He went on to play professionally in the National Football League (NFL) with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Washington Redskins.
Attea will serve as the tight ends coach. He joins the staff after earning three varsity letters as an offensive lineman at Princeton University. During his career with the Tigers, Attea started thirty straight games at left guard and was a member of two Ivy League championship teams. He was named an All-Ivy League first team selection in his final season. Attea was awarded the Princeton Hank T. Towns Award for mentorship, devotion and service to the community at large. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history. Attea is a native of East Amherst, New York and a graduate of Williamsville North High School.
Gillems will serves as an assistant running backs coach. He is no stranger to BW as he earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from the University in the spring of 2018. He was a member of the football program for two seasons and served as a student assistant his final two years. Off the field, Gillems is a sales agent with American Income Life.
Lyons will serve as an assistant quarterbacks coach. He comes to Berea after serving as an offensive line coach at Augustana (Ill.) College for two seasons. Prior to Augustana, Lyons served as a tight ends and offensive line coach at Ohio Wesleyan University for three seasons. He also had one-year coaching stops at NCAA Division I University of Wyoming and Western Kentucky University. Lyons received a Bachelor of Science from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University.
BW opens the 2019 campaign on Saturday, September 7 as it travels to Alma, Michigan for its lone non-conference game against Alma College at 1 p.m. OAC action is slated to begin with back-to-back road contests against Otterbein University on September 14 at 2 p.m. and Mount Union on September 15 at 1:30 p.m. The home opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 28 when the Yellow Jackets host Heidelberg University in an OAC and 42nd Lee Tressel Shrine Classic Game at 1:30 p.m. The season will conclude with the 31st Annual Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy game against crosstown rival John Carroll University on November 16 at 1:30 p.m.
