ACADEMIC MAJOR: Communications
BW ATHLETICS INFORMATION: Sam Groff played his third season of football at Baldwin Wallace University in 2016-2017. He earned his second varsity letter, was a team quad-captain, started at outside linebacker, led BW in tackles for the second straight season and earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors.
Sam also wrestles for the Yellow Jackets (see more below).
TEAM CAPTAIN: Sam is a 2016 football team quad captain.
ALL-OAC HONORS: As a red-shirt junior in 2016-2017, Sam earned second-team All-OAC honors.
LEADING TACKLER ON TEAM: As a sophomore in 2015-2016, Sam led BW In tackles (76). He did it again in 2016-2017 as a junior (86).
THROUGH-THE-YEARS: As a freshman in 2013, Sam played in his first season of football and received a certificate of participation. He split time between the varsity and junior varsity teams at linebacker. BW finished 6-4 overall.
As a sophomore in 2014-2015, Sam did not play football.
As a red-shirt sophomore in 2015-2016, Sam played his second season of football and earned his first varsity letter. He started at outside linebacker and led the team with 76 tackles in nine games (missed one due to an injury). He had 32 solo tackles, five tackles for loss with two quarterback sacks, two pass breakups and one fumble recovery. BW finished 7-3 overall.
As a red-shirt junior in 2016-2017, Sam played his third season of football, was a team quad captain (along with senior Alex Kurtz '17, asenior Brock Hill '16fall and red-shirt junior Andrew Schultz '17), earned his second letter, started at OLB for the second straight season and earned second-team All-OAC honors. On defense, he led the team in tackles for the second straight season and had 86 stops, including five for loss, with one QB sack, two interceptions and four total pass breakups, one forced fumble, one recovered fumble and a blocked kick.Offensively, Sam played "wildcay" QB in goal line situations and twice ran for touchdowns and threw a 2-point conversion pass. . He also scored his first career rushing TD on a 1-yard run versus Marietta and his second on a 3-yard run at Capital. The 2-point conversion pass was in a 28-17 win at Wilmington. BW finished 3-7 overall.

HOMETOWN & HIGH SCHOOL INFORMATION: Sam grew up in Waynesville, Ohio and graduated from Sandy Valley High School.
Sam played football, wrestled and ran track all four years. He earned four varsity letters in football, wrestling, and track.
Sam was a two-time All-Stark County pick in football, two-time All-State (OHSAA State Tournament placer) in wrestling, and an OHSAA Regional qualifier for in the shot put and discus in track.
FAMILY CONNECTION: Sam's father, John Groff '73, was an All-Ohio Athletic Conference player for the Yellow Jackets.
