BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team was defeated by Ohio Athletic Conference leader Otterbein University in a three-set OAC match on Senior and Parents' Day inside the Ursprung Gymnasium.
BW (25-4, 3-4 OAC) won the first set by a score of 25-21 before Otterbein (24-3, 6-1 OAC) rallied to win the next three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 26-24.
The Yellow Jacket offense was led by junior two-time first-team All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) as she hammered down 16 kills. Senior All-OAC right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) tallied 10 kills. Sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit), freshman middle hitter Taylor Brown (Maple Heights) and freshman utility player Alexis Garrett (Mentor) all added six kills.
Freshmen setters Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) and Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) ran the offense. Egan recorded 24 assists while Cosart added 14 assists.
The back line was anchored by Lortcher as she dug out 18 balls. Freshman defensive specialist/libero Sarah Reinhard (Willoughby/South) tallied13 digs. Freshman defensive specialist/libero Jasmine Hromada (Lorain/Elyria Catholic) provided 11 digs.
BW is back in action on Tuesday, October 24 when it travels to Ada for an OAC match against defending OAC champion and No. 21-nationally ranked Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 7 p.m.
