Three Volleyball Players Garner All-OAC Accolades

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Three Baldwin Wallace University volleyball players have been selected to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference team.

Senior right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) was named to the second team.  Junior outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) and sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) were both tabbed as honorable mention selections. 

Hawkins earns her second straight honor after being selected to the first-team a season ago.  This season, she recorded 247 kills, 64 digs, 31 blocks, 10 service aces and one assist.  For her career, Hawkins tallied 710 kills, 188 digs, 119 blocks, 38 service aces and 16 assists.  The education major earned her fourth varsity letter this fall.

Lortcher earns her third honor after being named to first-team last season and a second-team selection and the OAC Freshman of the Year in 2015.  She led the team for the third straight season and was fifth in the OAC with 345 kills.   Lortcher also led the team and was second in the OAC with 3.79 kills per set.  She ranked third on the team with 354 digs while tallying 31 blocks, 27 service aces and 15 assists.    For her career, Lortcher ranks eighth all-time in school history with 1,096 kills and ranks 15th all-time in digs with 1,107.  She has also recorded 104 blocks, 88 service aces and 34 assists.  The communications disorders major and Dean's List student earned her third varsity letter this fall.

Smith, who earned her first accolade, had her best season as a collegian this season.  She recorded career-highs in kills with 287 and blocks with 25.  Smith also tallied 51 digs, three assists and two service aces.  For her career, Smith has recorded 463 kills, 118 digs, 38 blocks, 13 service aces and nine assists.  The speech pathology major and Dean's List student earned her second varsity letter this fall.

BW finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 26-6 and had a mark of 4-5 in the OAC.
