ALLIANCE, Ohio – The sixth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team ended its 2017 season as it fell to the third-seeded University of Mount Union in a four-set Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinal match inside the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex.
Mount Union (25-4) advances to the OAC Tournament semifinals on Thursday, November 2 when it will travel Ada to face second-seeded and No. 18-nationally ranked Ohio Northern University. BW (26-6) closes out its season in the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2015 season.
The Yellow Jackets won the first set by score of 25-21. The Purple Raiders won the final three sets by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-18.
The BW offense was led by senior All-OAC right side hitter Ellen Hawkins (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) as she smacked down a match-high tying 15 kills.
Junior two-time first-team All-OAC outside hitter Alicia Lortcher (Norwalk) and sophomore outside hitter Allyson Smith (Macedonia/Walsh Jesuit) each knocked down 11 kills.
Freshmen setters Kathleen Egan (Cleveland/Beaumont) and Abby Cosart (Lima/Bath) ran the offense. Egan tallied 21assists while Cosart recorded 10 assists.
The back line was anchored by freshman libero Jasmine Hromada (Lorain/Elyria Catholic) as she dug out a match-best and career-high 23 balls. Lortcher tallied 19 digs and Egan added 10 digs.
The OAC Tournament Championship will be held on Saturday, November 4 on the campus of the highest remaining seed at 2 p.m.
