ALLIANCE, Ohio – The fifth-seeded Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team ended the 2017-18 season with a 5-1 loss to four-seed University of Mount Union in the Ohio Athletic Conference quarterfinals at the Whitehill Tennis Courts.

In tournament action, the overall match is decided when one team reaches five points. As soon as the winning team reaches the five points, all other matches still in progress are halted. Each match begins with three doubles matches followed by singles action until the five points are obtained.

Mount Union (13-6) advances to the OAC semifinals to take on the top-seeded John Carroll University Blue Streaks on Friday, May 4, at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio, while BW (12-11) finishes its season.

The Purple Raiders held a comfortable 3-0 lead after doubles play, marking an improvement from the last time the two teams played when BW was able to win at No. 1 doubles. Senior Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) and junior Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) put up the toughest fight at No. 3 doubles, falling in a tiebreaker 9-8(7).

In singles action, Mount Union would take a 4-0 advantage with a win at No. 3 singles before the Yellow Jackets would record their lone point of the afternoon. Senior Academic All-OAC player Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) finished off her BW career on a high note with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. The Purple Raiders would eventually win with the next point coming at No. 1 singles.

The OAC Championship will be contested on Saturday, May 5, at 2 p.m. with the winners of Friday's semifinal matches facing off at Lindner.
