HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Competing in the first spring break match, the Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team earned its first sweep of the season, defeating Defiance College 9-0 in non-conference action at the Shipyard Racquet Club.

En route to the shutout, BW (3-3) earned all three doubles points and carried the momentum into singles play. Senior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference player Kayla Eeg (Waterford, Pa./General McLane) and junior Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) were the first duo to walk off the court with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Freshmen Becca Liebler (Medina) and Ashtyn Morris (Salem) paired together at No. 2 doubles and, with the strong serving of Liebler, won by a score of 8-3. At No. 1 doubles, freshman Jayde Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) displayed some strong net play and, together with sister junior All-OAC player Imani Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts), sealed the third point with an 8-4 win.

After her strong play in doubles, Liebler never missed a beat and cruised through her singles match with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win. Senior Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) and senior Academic All-OAC player Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) secured wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, only surrendering one game between the two of them. Jayde Robinson won at No. 1 with scores of 6-3, 6-4, while sister Imani Robinson defeated her Defiance (2-14) opponent 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2 singles. Morris struggled to open her No. 3 singles match, falling behind 4-0 before regrouping and rattling off six consecutive games to win the first set, and then breezed through her second set for a 6-4, 6-1 win.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action for two matches on Tuesday, March 6, against Roanoke (Va.) College at 8:30 a.m. and Eastern Nazarene (Mass.) College at 3 p.m. at the Evian Tennis Center.
