Women's Swimming and Diving Team Falls to Widener (Pa.)

SARASOTA, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team dropped a 121-67 non-conference dual meet to Widener (Pa.) University at the Sarasota YMCA during its annual Florida training trip.

BW (5-3) was led by freshman freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) and freshman stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls). Thorson picked up the lone victory of the day as she captured the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:29.45 and she was second in the 100-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 1:06.41.  Nockengost had a pair of runner-up finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard butterfly with times of 1:13.89 and 1:04.22, respectively.
 

In addition, junior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) was second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:08.77 and took third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:09.19. Junior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) was second in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.62 seconds.  Freshman freestyler Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.) finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 27.09 and freshman freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) was the runner-up in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:37.58.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay squad of Miller, freshman stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence), Nockengost and Kortis touched the wall in second place with a season-best time of 2:00.44.  The 200-yard freestyle unit of Kortis, Ball, junior freestyler Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) and sophomore stroker Claire Onchuck (Darien, Ill. /Hinsdale South) finished second in a season-best time of 1:50.13 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 14 when they hosts a non-conference dual meet against NCAA Division II Malone University in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.   BW returns to OAC action on Friday, January 20 when it travels to ADA for a dual meet against Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center at 6 p.m.
