Jacob Sets School Record to Lead Women's Swimming and Diving to Fourth Place at OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio -- Freshman freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) broke a 24-year old school record to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams to a fourth finish at the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW placedfourth of seven teams with 412.50 points. John Carroll University won the championship with 869.50 points. 

Jacob was the runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle with the school-record time of 18:18.39, which bested the record of Yellow Jacket Hall of Famer Julie Jenks set in 1993.

In addition, freshman freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) placed fourth in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 2:12.34.  Junior Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) was fourth in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 2:12.26. Freshman stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) finished sixth in the 200-fly in a career-best time of 2:15.33.  sophomore All-OAC stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. /Williamsville South) took seventh in the 200-fly in a time of 2:19.54.

In relay action, the 400-yard freestyle relay unit of Nockengost, Miller, junior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Jackson) and Thorson placed fourth in a time of 3:40.39, which was eight one-hundredths of a second off the school-record. 

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be contested on March 15-18 in Shenandoah, Texas at the Conroe Independent School District (CISD) Natatorium.
