BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out regular season portion of its schedule as both were defeated by cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.
BW (6-6) dropped a 224.5-74.5 decision to the Spartan women.
The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) as she won the 500-yard freestyle, was the runner-up in the 1,650-yard freestyle and took third in the 100-yard individual medley. Thorson had a time of 5:26.49 in the 500-yard free, a career-best time of 19.06.18 in the 1650-free and a time of 1:06.42 in the 100-IM.
In addition, freshman stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) was the runner-up in the 50-yard butterfly and the 50-yard breaststroke as well as placing third in the 100-yard breaststroke. Nockengost finished with a career-best time of 28.51 in the 50-fly, a career-best time of 33.56 seconds in the 50-breast and a time of 1:13.39 in the 100-breast.
Also, junior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke and took third in the 200-yard freestyle. Miller had a time of 1:04.86 in the 100-back and a time of 2:07.89 in the 200-free. Junior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle with times of 26.47 and 58.92. Freshman diver/stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) was third in the 50-yard breaststroke and third in the five-dive 1-meter event. Clymer had in a time of 34.08 in the 50-free and tallied a career-best 133.15 points in diving event. Sophomore diver Elizabeth Sant (Mount Vernon) took third in the six-dive 1-meter event with 128.40 points.
In relay action, the 200-yard medley unit of Miller, Clymer, Nockengost and Kortis finished second in a season-best time of 1:58.00.
BW is back in action on February 16-18 when it travels to Akron to compete in the three-day OAC Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron. Preliminary action is slated for 11 am on Thursday and at 10 am on Friday and Saturday. Finals will be contested each night with action scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday with a 5:30 p.m. start on Saturday.
