HOLLAND, Mich. – The 19th nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season to fourth nationally-ranked Thomas More (Ky.) College 80-56 in the opening game of the Post Exam Jam, hosted by Hope (Mich.) College inside the DeVos Fieldhouse.

Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Village/Elyria Catholic) was the lone BW (8-1) scorer to reach double figures with 10 points while also dishing out five assists. Junior Academic All-OAC guard Kasey Hughes (Springboro) was the second-leading scorer with seven points while junior Academic All-OAC guard/forward Mary Schentur (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) pulled down a team-high and career-high seven rebounds.

Senior guard Madison Temple posted 26 points in the victory for Thomas More (12-0) and also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds. Junior guard Kaela Saner chipped in 17 points of her own while freshman guard Asyah Mitchell scored 11 points to round out the Saints in double digits.

After senior Academic All-OAC forward Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center/Olentangy) nailed a jumper on BW's opening possession, Thomas More scored the next seven points by starting to establish dominance on the glass and active hands on defense. Once the Yellow Jackets settled down on offense, senior Academic All-OAC guard MacKenzi Matthews (North Royalton) and Schentur drained back-to-back three-pointers for a 10-8 score at the 4:27 mark. Both teams then traded field goals until Hughes capped off the first period scoring with a trey to pull BW within six points at 21-15.

The Yellow Jackets remained within a few possessions of the lead thanks to two separate minute-long scoreless stretches, trailing 32-20 at the halfway point. The Saints' offense really started to click toward the end of the first half, however, as Thomas More was able to open up a 21-point lead, 49-28, heading into halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, BW started off on a 5-0 run to make the score 49-33 after only a minute of action. Although the Saints were able to put a stop to the run on offense, they ran into early foul trouble and sent the Yellow Jackets into the bonus at the 6:04 mark. However, BW was unable to use the free scoring opportunities as Thomas More limited its fouls for the rest of the period and maintained a 20-point advantage at the end of the period.

Thomas More's defense held the Yellow Jackets offense at bay to start the final quarter as the Saints extended their lead to 30 points. BW was able to cut into the deficit, however, finishing on an 8-2 run for a final score of 80-56.

BW will conclude the Post Exam Jam on Saturday, Dec. 14, against either Hope or Finlandia (Mich.) University at 1 p.m. inside the DeVos Fieldhouse.
