Schill and Edwards Career Days Lead Women’s Basketball Past Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference point guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Village/Elyria Catholic) and freshman forward Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) each tied a career-high in points as the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team won its second straight OAC season series as it defeated Muskingum University for the second time this season with an 80-66 victory on Performance Court.

Schill scored a game-high and career-high tying 24 points and Edwards tallied a career-best tying 23 points as the duo were the only double figure scorers for BW (14-5, 8-4 OAC). 

Muskingum (1-18, 0-12), who lost its 12th straight game, was led by junior forward Devyn Bonner with a team-high 23 points. 

In the first quarter, the Fighting Muskies jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-4 run to take a 10-6 lead on a layup by senior forward Academic All-OAC Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center/Olentangy) at the 4:16 mark.  Muskingum outscored BW by a margin of 13-11 over the remainder of the opening quarter but trailed 21-17.

The Fighting Muskies cut the lead down to 24-21 early in the second quarter on a jumper by sophomore guard Emily Yeager at 9:11. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 9-2 to run to push the lead to 33-23 capped off by a traditional three-point play by freshman guard Megan Hensel (Upper Sandusky) at the 5:52 mark.  Muskingum answered back with a 6-2 run to cut the lead down to 35-29 when Yeager spilt a pair from the charity stripe at 4:35. Each team scored 12 points over the remainder of the first half but BW held a 47-41 lead at the intermission.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on an 8-2 run to push their lead to 55-43 on a jumper by Womeldorf at 4:39. The Fighting Muskies cut the lead down to 56-48 on layup by sophomore guard Sam Filiaggi at the 3:39 mark.  BW closed out the quarter on a 13-6 run to secure a 69-54 lead after three quarters of play. 

Muskingum scored the only three points in the first 3:17 of the final stanza to cut the lead down to 69-57 on a layup by Filiaggi at 6:43. The Yellow Jackets closed out the game on a 21-9 run to take home the 80-66 victory. 

BW is back in action and returns to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gymnasium on Wednesday, January 31 for an OAC game against Ohio Northern University at 7 p.m.
