HOLLAND, Mich. – The 19th nationally-ranked Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team bounced back with a 73-42 victory over Finlandia (Mich.) University in the consolation game of the Post Exam Jam, hosted by Hope (Mich.) College inside the DeVos Fieldhouse.

Three Yellow Jackets (9-1) hit double-digit scoring, led by junior Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard/forward Mary Schentur (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as she posted a team-high 15 points. Senior Academic All-OAC forward Rachel Womeldorf (Lewis Center/Olentangy) was the second-leading scorer with 13 points while grabbing a game-high six boards. Junior Academic All-OAC guard Kasey Hughes (Springboro) contributed 10 points in the win and dished out a career-high tying seven assists.

Freshman guard Harlee Froberg scored a game-high 19 points for Finlandia (0-11) while freshman forward Katie Lundeen chipped in 12 points of her own.

Both teams got off to a slow start as BW missed its first four field goals before Womeldorf knocked down back-to-back attempts, including her first three-point try of the season. Meanwhile, Finlandia opened 1-of-8 from the floor until the Lions connected on consecutive possessions to cut the deficit down to five points at 13-8 with 2:21 remaining. Spanning the first and second quarters, the Yellow Jackets went off on an 8-1 run to take their first double-digit lead of the game, which they would not relinquish.

Once Finlandia finally put a stop to the extended run, BW's offense proceeded to light up the scoreboard as five different players recorded 15 points in a four-minute span to open up a 35-11 advantage. The Lions recovered slightly and traded baskets with the Yellow Jackets for the final 2:36 of the half but still trailed 41-17 at intermission.

Defense marked the third quarter as Finlandia held the Yellow Jackets to its lowest offensive output for a period game at just 13 points and only nine after an initial 4-0 run to start the scoring. BW onferencewas just as stingy on defense, however, and held its opponents to one fewer point to maintain a 54-29 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

The 20-plus point deficit proved insurmountable for the Lions in the final period as the Yellow Jackets cruised to the eventual 73-42 victory.

Following the conclusion of the game, junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Village/Elyria Catholic) was named to her second All-Tournament Team of the season. She scored a total of 15 points while dishing out eight assists over the weekend.

BW returns to OAC action on Wednesday, Dec. 19, when the Yellow Jackets host the University of Mount Union at 7 p.m. inside Ursprung Gymnasium.
