Baldwin-Wallace College Softball Team Splits on Second Day of Spring Break Trip to Arizona

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team split a pair of games at the Annual Tucson Invitational Tournament on the second day of its annual spring break trip in Tucson, Arizona. Today (Monday, March 9, 2009), BW won its opener against Northwestern (Iowa) College, 15-6, and then lost, 4-2, against St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College in the nightcap.

 
With its split, the Yellow Jackets are now 2-2 overall and play games tomorrow against St. Elizabeth (N.J.) at 5:30 p.m. EST and versus Dubuque (Iowa) at 8:00 p.m. EST.
 
In the first game against Northwestern (Iowa), B-W jumped all over Northwestern to the tune of eight runs in the top of the first inning.  Northwestern countered with two runs in the first and four in the second to make the score, 8-6, after two innings.  B-W struck for four in the third inning and three in the fifth to take home the 15-6 victory
 
Offensively, senior Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Lake/Elyria Senior) had three hits, including two home runs and six RBI.  In addition to Myor, sophomore pre-season All-American Tanya Davis (Hinckley/Medina Highland), junior Mallory Kobak (Independence) and sophomore Katrina Resek (Strongsville) all collected two hits each.
 
On the mound, sophomore left-hander Mackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky/Senior) went three and two-thirds innings in relief, while allowing one run.
 
In the second game, St. John Fisher jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning and extend its lead to 4-0 in the fifth before B-W got on the board in the sixth with two runs of its own.
 
Offensively, Davis and Myor each went one-for-three with an RBI. 
 
On the mound, freshman Sarah Baker (Mentor/Lake Catholic) went the distance, going six innings and allowing four runs on nine hits while striking out three.
