Baldwin-Wallace Softball Team Takes Two Games from The College of Wooster in Wooster

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader from The College of Wooster today (Tuesday, March 31, 2009) at Galpin Park in Wooster.  The Yellow Jackets won the first game, 9-0, in six innings, and took the second game, 12-2, in five innings.

Today's twinbill was a make-up after Monday's (March 30) games were postponed.

With its wins, B-W improves to 12-8 overall.  Three out of the last five Yellow Jacket wins have come by way of a shutout.  Wooster falls to 2-18 overall.

In the first game, the Yellow Jackets tallied a single run in the top of the fourth inning and put the game away when they exploded for eight runs in the sixth.

At the plate, senior first baseman Caitlin Myor (Sheffield Village/ Elyria Senior) was three-for-three with one run batted-in and two runs scored.  One of Myor's hits came on her team-leading seventh homerun of the season.  Junior third baseman Megan Coyne (Valley City/ Keystone) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.  Sophomore catcher Tanya Davis (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) and junior centerfielder Mallory Kobak (Independence) also tallied two hits.

On the mound, freshman righthander Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) started and earned the win to improve to 6-4.  She pitched 6.0 innings and faced just 21 batters, gave up no runs on four hits and fanned two batters.

In the second game, B-W scored in every inning, with three runs in each of the top of the first and second innings, two in the third, three more in the fourth, and one more in the fifth.  Wooster scored in the bottom of the fifth, but was unable to muster enough offense to avoid the mercy rule.

Offensively,  Davis had three more hits in three tries, all of them doubles, scored four runs, and drove in three. Junior leftfielder Chelsea Saunders (Medina/ Highland), sophomore shortstop Katrina Resek (Strongsville), and sophomore third baseman Becky Miner (Berea) all had multi-hit games. Nine total Yellow Jackets had hits.

On the mound, sophomore southpaw Mackenzie Rohrbacher (Sandusky/ Senior) started and worked five innings and gave up two runs on four hits to earn the win and improve to 5-4. She struck out five batters and issued just one free pass.
