BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College freshman Sarah Baker (Mentor/ Lake Catholic) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference softball Pitcher of the Weekfor her performance during B-W's trip to Maryville, Tennessee this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, March 21-22). 

Baker tossed two complete-game shutouts as the Yellow Jackets posted a 3-1 record during competition at Maryville College. On Saturday, she pitched seven innings, allowed only three hits, and struck out three as B-W defeated host Maryville, 2-0. On Sunday, Baker logged six innings, allowed a single base hit, and struck out two as the Jackets defeated Spalding (Ky.) University, 8-0, in a game shortened to six frames. For the week, she was 2-0 with five strikeouts and four hits allowed in 13 innings.

"Sarah did a great job keeping the hitters off balance this weekend," said B-W Head Coach Tom Spencer. "She has good control and places the ball well. Pitching 13 shutout innings is impressive."

This season, Baker tops the team with a 5-2 record and a 1.81 earned run average. She also has totaled nine hits and five runs batted-in at the plate.

"We knew Sarah would be able to come in and contribute quickly as a freshman, but she has pleasantly exceeded our expectations both on the mound and at the plate," noted Spencer. "Her performance has really earned the respect of our upperclassmen. "

The Yellow Jackets, 10-4 overall, open the home portion of their 2009 schedule with a doubleheader versus Ohio Wesleyan University at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds tomorrow (Tuesday, March 24) at 3:30 p.m.
