BW Cross Country Teams Compete in Unscored Season-Opener at Wooster

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2009 season-opening and unscored meet today (Tuesday, September 1) at the College of Wooster in Wooster.

Both the Yellow Jacket men and women competed in a pair of separate races. Thirty-two total men competed in a 5K race while 39 others competed in a four-mile race. The women had a pair of races with 36 runners competing in a 4K and 20 runners competing at 5K.

For the BW men, sophomore Drew Beck (Canadaigua, N.Y. (Canadaigua Academy) led the way at 5K by placing seventh individually in 17:31. He was followed by freshman Steven Piotrowski (Parma/ Normandy) in ninth place in 17:45, junior Nate Nemire (Berlin Heights/ Milan Edison) in 10th in 17:49, freshman Nicholas Jeffers (South Amherst/ Firelands) in 11th in 17:52, freshman Andrew Ventura (Avon) was 12th in 18:01, senior Greg Ackley (Ashtabula/ Lakeside) was 13th in 18:14 and sophomore Mark Warman (Strongsville)was 14th in 18:28.  In the 4-mile run, sophomore Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/ Calvert) led the way by placing sixth in 22:03. He was followed by freshman David Gerding (Strongsville) in ninth in 22:27, junior Brian Gibbons (Rocky River) in 13th in 22:46, freshman Ryan Fallow (Medina/ Senior) in 15th in 22:58 and freshman Teddy Crozier (Dresden/Tri-Valley) was 18th in 23:05.
