Baldwin Wallace Cross Country Teams Run at BGSU Mel Brodt Invitational; Women 1st in DIII

BEREA, OHIO -

 The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's cross country teams competed today (Saturday, September 12, 2009) at the Bowling Green State University Mel Brodt Invitational Meet in Bowling Green, Ohio. The women finished fifth overall of 13 teams competing but first out of the five Division III institutions on hand. The men were 12th

 overall and fourth in DIII.  

Highlighting the meet for the Yellow Jacket women was junior All-OAC runner Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum), who was second in Division III in the 5K and fifth overall in the 153-person field with a time of 18:38.60.

In addition to Chinn and individually, senior All-OAC runner D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) placed fourth in DIII and 19th overall with a time of 19:04.80. Juniors Karin Coyne (Columbia Station/Columbia) and Katie White (Berea) were sixth and seventh, respectively, in DIII and 33rd and 34th overall. Coyne ran 19:25.80 with Whiteright behind in 19:25.90. Junior Krysten Kovach (North Royalton/ Parma Padua Franciscan) placed 16th in DIII and 61st overall with a mark of 20:00.80.

Also competing for the women, freshman Lauren McGaughey (Allison Park, Pa./ Hampton) finished at 20:07.80, freshman Lynne Fahy (Ontario, N.Y./ Wayne Central) at 20:29.50, sophomore Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield Twp./ Medina Buckeye) at 21:38.90, freshman Tess Hoogeveen (Westerville/ Westerville South)at 21:44.90, sophomore Judy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./ Monaca Center) at 22:14.0, senior Brittany Giesken (Ottawa/ Ottawa-Glandorf) at 22:51.80 and junior Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) at 23:46.60.

For the men, junior Brian Gibbons (Rocky River) placed 12th in the DIII class and 44th overall in the 168-person field. He completed the 8K course in 26:18.10.

In addition to Gibbons for the men, freshman Kenneth Janosko (Mentor) was 17th in DIII and 51st overall with a time of 26:29.10, sophomore Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/Calvert) was 20th in DIII and 59th overall in 26:49.20, senior Brian Campbell (Berea) placed 22nd in DIII and 73rd overall in 27:04.30 and sophomore Drew Beck (Canadaigua, N.Y./Canadaigua Academy) rounded out the top five as he placed 24th in DIII and 80thoverall in 27:13.40.

Also competing for the men, freshman Andrew Ventura (Avon) finished at 27:21.30, senior Mark Buhoveckey (Brunswick/ Parma Padua Franciscan) at 27:24, junior Nate Nemire (Berlin Heights/ Milan Edison) at 27:46.30, senior Jimmy Eberts (North Canton/ Hoover) at 27:48.50, freshman David Gerding (Strongsville)at 27:52.10, freshman Teddy Crozier (Dresden/ Tri-Valley) at 28:00, freshman Nick Jeffers (South Amherst/ Firelands) at 28:03.40, freshman Ryan Fallow (Medina Senior) at 28:27.10, sophomore Mike Sisko (Olmsted Falls) at 28:32, senior Greg Ackley (Ashtabula/ Lakeside) at 28:33.10 and sophomore Mark Warman (Strongsville) at 29:31.30.

The BW runners are back in action next week on Saturday Sept. 19 as they will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. to run in the Calvin (Mich.) Invitational at 10:00 a.m.
