Men’s Volleyball Falls to Mount St. Joseph in Home Finale

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University men's volleyball team closed out the home portion oof is 2021 schedule as dropped both matches of a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League doubleheader to Mount St. Joseph University Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Mount St. Joseph Lion's (9-1, 9-1 MCVL) took the first match in three sets by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-17. The Lion's again took the second match win in three sets with scores of 25-11, 25-17, and 25-13. 

In the first match, BW(6-6, 6-6 MCVL) was led by freshman outside hitter Kāmau Maka'ike (Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools) and freshman outside hitter Michael Beard (Hilliard/Darby) with 10 kills each. Freshman outside hitter Nick Irelan (Powell/Olentangy Liberty), who was thrust into the setting duties, supported the offense with 22 assists. Freshman defensive specialist Joe Meyer (Waterford, N.Y./Shenendehowa) led the defensive line with 11 digs. Maka'ike and freshman Nick Mazzone (Springboro/Bishop Fenwick) contributed four digs each.

Beard led the Yellow Jackets offense in the second match with eight kills and two assists,.  Maka'ike recorded another five kills. Irelan set up the offense with 13 assists. Meyer again led the defense with seven digs while freshman Nick Reilman (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) followed with six digs. Beard and Irelan contributed five digs each. 

BW returns to action on Saturday, March 20 as it travel to Clayton, Missouri for a MCVL doubleheader against Fontbonne University at 11 am.
