Men’s Volleyball Drops Doubleheader to Adrian (Mich.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's volleyball team dropped a Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League doubleheader to Adrian (Mich.) College in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

Adrian (4-4, 4-2 MCVL) took the first match in five sets by scores of 27-25, 14-25, 22-25, 26-24 and 15-9. The Bulldogs completed the doubleheader sweep as it took the second match by scores of 25-19, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-12. 

With the loss, BW (6-4, 6-4 MCVL) had its season-high six match winning streak come to an end.

Match 1
The Yellow Jacket offense was led by freshman outside hitter Kãmau Maka'ike (Hilo, Hawaii/Kamehameha Schools) as he recorded a career and match-high 19 kills.  Freshman outside hitter Nick Irelan (Powell/Olentangy Liberty) added 13 kills. Freshman outside hitter Michael Beard (Hilliard/Darby) contributed 10 kills. Freshman setter Brandon Long (Hinckley/Metea Valley [Ill.]) ran the offense with career-best 52 assists.   Defensively, Beard anchored the backline with a career-high 15 digs.  Long, Maka'ike and freshman defensive specialist Joe Meyer (Waterford, N.Y. / Shenendehowa) each contributed 11 digs. 

Match 2
The BW offensive attack was led by sophomore outside hitter Aaric Gossett (Lewis Center/Olentangy) as he recorded 13 kills. Irelan and Maka'ike added nine and seven kills, respectively. Long set up with offense with 32 assists. Irelan and Meyer led the defense with seven digs each.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, March 13 when they host their final home MCVL doubleheader against Mount St. Joseph University at 1 p.m.  BW will also welcome a limited amount fans into the Ursprung Gymnasium for the first time this season.
