Beard Named MCVL Offensive Player of the Week

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Baldwin Wallace University men's volleyball freshman Michael Beard (Hilliard/Darby) has been named the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League's Offensive Player of the Week. Beard's honor is the first such honor in program history.

Beard makes program history following his role in a weekend sweep against Wabash (Ind.) College. The Yellow Jackets have now won six straight matches behind some excellent play from Beard.

Beard combined to notch 43 kills, including a career-high 23 in the opener. The freshman became the first Yellow Jackets player in program history with a 20-kill match, as well as back-to-back 20-kill matches.

Beard has quickly established himself as one of the premier outside hitters in the MCVL. The freshman ranks second in the league in total kills (118) and third in kills per set (3.81), while also recording two double-doubles on the young season.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on March 6, following a weekend reprieve and will begin a two-match weekend against Adrian (Mich.) College. The Yellow Jackets will play at 6:00 p.m. on March 6 and host the back end of the series at 12:00 p.m. on March 7.
